Obituary - Avis de décès

Robert Fraser Ervin

June 21, 1913 - May 8, 2015

Sadly, but with gratitude for a life well lived, the death is announced of Robert Fraser Ervin of Moncton, husband of the late Betty (Shott) Ervin, on May 8, 2015.

Fraser was born in Poplar Hill, Pictou County, Nova Scotia on June 21, 1913, the fifth child of the late Scott and Alexis (MacLeod) Ervin. He was the last surviving member of his family, having been predeceased by his brothers Elmer, Roderick, Stanley, Keith and Chesley and his sister Florence.

After attending radio school in Halifax, Fraser began his working life as a ship’s radio operator and then joined the Federal Department of Transport in 1939 where he worked in telecommunications until his retirement in 1973. He was a long -time member of Mountain View United Church where he was a served on the board of Trustees, was a church Elder and sang in the choir for many years.

Fraser lived a long and remarkably healthy life, residing in his own home, cooking his own meals and looking after his own affairs up to age 99. He loved to tinker in his basement and find ways to “improve” things. He had a great sense of humour as well as a keen interest in current affairs. In spite of increasing physical frailty over the past few months, his mind remained sharp right to the end.

Survivors include his son, Kevin of Moncton and daughter, Alexis of Fredericton as well as several well - loved nieces and nephews and their families.

A Service to celebrate the life of Fraser will be held at Mountain View United Church (85 MacBeath Ave.) on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Ron Maund officiating. Interment, Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
