Lloyd was the last radio operator and Officer in Charge at the Pointe à la Renommée (Fame Point) coast station from 1949 to 1959.

 

Fame Point was one of the first ship to shore radio station in North America. Installed in 1904 by a young american engineer by the name of Joseph Barridon and his assistant Hugh Lyle, it operated for 53 consecutive years. When Fame Point was replaced by a new station at Rivière aux Renards, (Fox River), Lloyd was the first OIC there.

 

Lloyd later came to Montreal as a radio inspector and ended his career at Ottawa Headquarters.

 

His wife Regina (Lisik) Nelson wrote a book " The Fame Point Years " which recounts a full and exciting period of their lives along the St-Lawrence River.

 

Lloyd passed away April 25, 2003 at the age of 82.
